A great summer this year of gardening, lunching and leisure time kicked off in June with a week with Phil and Katie in the south of France working for an English couple with 4 acres. The majority of work involved clearing the Mimosa woods and beautifying the terraces. A great experience and a lot of fun. Our lovely hosts kept us topped up with local Rose and great company. The Maeght gallery near Cannes highly recommended, for me, the Eduardo Chillida sculptures were the highlight.
In London, I viewed the Tracey Emin exhibition 'Love is What You Want' at the Hayward Gallery, disturbing but very moving. I loved the National Portrait Gallery and the Saatchi Gallery had some great installations, I particularly liked Folkert de Jong's work, quite sinister but fun.
Dixter this year was looking fantastic, I voluteered there every week. Ammi majus and Erigeron annuus were used this year to creat what I thought was a very floaty, etherial feel. Other gardens of note that I visited were the Sussex Prairie Gardens which are a 'must see' and Gravetye Manor which has a fantastic meadow created by William Robinson and the best vegetable garden you will ever see.
Back to school tomorrow....
